Watermarks protect your documents. Whether you're marking a draft, labeling a document as confidential, or adding your brand to shared PDFs, watermarking is essential for document management.

Why Add a Watermark to a PDF?

  • Mark drafts — clearly label work-in-progress documents so recipients know it's not final
  • Confidentiality — stamp "CONFIDENTIAL" or "INTERNAL USE ONLY" on sensitive documents
  • Copyright protection — add your name, logo, or website to prevent unauthorized sharing
  • Document tracking — watermark with recipient names to trace unauthorized distribution
  • Branding — add your company logo to client-facing documents
  • Legal compliance — some industries require documents to be clearly marked

Tips for Effective Watermarks

Use diagonal placement

Diagonal watermarks (typically 45 degrees) are harder to remove and more visible across different page layouts than horizontal ones.

Set the right opacity

30-50% opacity is ideal. The watermark should be visible but not obstruct the document content. Too opaque and the text becomes hard to read; too transparent and the watermark becomes invisible.

Choose contrasting colors

Gray watermarks work well on most documents. For documents with heavy graphics, a semi-transparent red or blue may be more visible.

Privacy

Your PDF is watermarked entirely in your browser. No files are uploaded to any server. This is critical when watermarking confidential business documents.
